Spectacular Drift Creek Falls
Drift Creek Falls, one of Oregon’s awesome sights, has changed sometime last year as a result of a massive rock slide. Regular visitors will immediately recognize the difference. The falls are arguably the most popular of Coast Range hikes. Earlier the falls plummeted 73 feet into the plunge pool below. Now they cascade only 65 feet to the creek bed because of a huge boulder measuring 60 feet in length and 20 feet in width which lies at the bottom of the Falls. The rockslide, witnessed by no one, took place sometime during August of 2010. With the ravine and opposite bank now littered with various sized angular rocks, the character and flow of water in the creek bed has altered forever. While it is vastly different to what it was earlier, the falls nonetheless has evolved a natural beauty of its own which has not in any way diminished the throng of hikers.
