Whale Watch Week in Lincoln City
Lincoln City is gearing up for the various December events. Whale Watch Week between December 26, 2011 and January 2, 2012 is when the city will be bursting at the seams with an influx of enthusiasts keen to get a glimpse of any whale or the gray whales in particular. While whale spotting is a year-round activity on the Oregon coast, chances are better in December when the gray whales migrate south from their feeding grounds to their breeding grounds in the warm water lagoons off the Mexican coast. Roughly 18,000 gray whales take this long trip to return between March and June to the Alaskan waters, their home till they migrate south again. The first spout, visible to the naked eye, is a sight which thrills and brings spotters back every year. From Lincoln City you could either watch the whales through binoculars or if you’d like a closer view take a chartered boat. If you want an aerial view watch the herds from a helicopter or small plane.
