Connie Hansen’s Acre of Heaven
Connie Hansen a one-time local resident, who died in 1993, created a little piece of heaven in her one acre Lincoln City home. A trained botanist and avid collector of plants, Connie had an amazing collection of azaleas, rhododendrons, geraniums and Siberian and Japanese iris spread out among her magnolias, maples and styrax japonica trees. In her lifetime, Connie Hansen worked tirelessly, experimenting with her beloved plants and creating hybrids. Many of these are registered and internationally acclaimed like her ‘Connie’s Variety’ of geranium and ‘Lightly Touched’ iris. Her legacy continues today manned by a company of dedicated volunteers. Connie Hansen’s garden which is part of the Lincoln City experience has been classified as one of the Great Gardens of Oregon. The local Chamber of Commerce has classified it as one of Lincoln City’s ‘jewels’, a name it lives up to with the number of visitors it draws each year. The garden, with something in bloom at any time of the year, has a schedule of events which include flower arrangement and horticulture classes.
Make a visit to Connie Hansen’s garden as part of your Lincoln City beach vacation. The place to stay would be one of A1 Beach Rentals’ beach rental homes.
